Refund Policy
How refunds, changes, and cancellations work when you book an Amtrak reservation through Amtrain Bookings.
1. The fare rules control
Every ticket carries its own fare rules. Those rules determine whether a ticket is refundable, whether a fee applies, and how close to departure you can cancel. The rules attached to your specific fare control over any general statement on this page.
We explain the refund and change terms before you pay. If you are not sure which fare you are buying, ask before confirming.
2. Refundable and non-refundable fares
Some Amtrak fares can be cancelled for a refund, sometimes with a fee or within a deadline. Other fares, including certain discounted or promotional tickets, may be non-refundable or refundable only as a travel credit. Sleeper accommodations can have separate rules from the rail fare.
A refund is not automatic simply because you did not travel. You must request the cancellation within the applicable deadline, and the carrier must process the cancellation under its rules.
3. Service fees
Any service fee charged by Amtrain Bookings is disclosed before you confirm. Unless required by law or expressly stated otherwise, a service fee for work already performed is not refundable when the underlying ticket is refunded by the carrier.
If we made a booking error, we will correct it at no additional service charge. If the carrier changes or cancels the service, the carrier’s policy governs the refund of the transportation portion.
4. How to request a refund or cancellation
Call (808) 857-3780 as soon as your plans change. Have your confirmation number, passenger name, travel date, and the reason for the request ready.
We will confirm whether the fare is refundable, whether a fee applies, and the expected timeline. In some cases the carrier must process the refund directly; we will tell you which process applies.
5. Timing
Refund processing times vary by payment method and carrier. Card refunds commonly take several business days to appear after the carrier approves them, and your bank may add additional time. We cannot speed up a carrier’s or bank’s internal processing.
6. Changes instead of refunds
If your fare allows changes, you may be able to move your travel date instead of cancelling. A fare difference may apply, and some fares permit only one change. We will quote the available options before making any change.
7. Chargebacks
Please contact us before filing a chargeback so we can explain the fare rules and help resolve the issue. Filing a chargeback for a charge you authorized does not change the underlying fare rules and may delay a refund.
